Note: CRIC stands for Carolyn Resnick Inner Circle, a program she is offering (for monetary compensation) to provide Internet coaching and which I am currently enrolled.
While I discuss Carolyns’ methods (”Waterhole Rituals’) I am expressing only my opinion to materials – DVD’s, online YouTube videos, her public blog etc… and my impressions of it, as well as how I use it with my own horses, as a review. I am not trained or endorsed by Carolyn Resnick.
Today starts my participation in the Carolyn Resnick Insider Circle program. This is a group coaching program done via phone and as well as the availability of some private video coaching. Because of confidentiality and such, I won’t be transcribing here what happened in our session(s) – after all the other folks involved may not want their thoughts/questions/comments aired to the general public and I need to respect that.
However, I will give my own thoughts/comments etc… of the overall call and how I plan on using the general information given and perhaps some insights on why you might want to use her Method – and I’m sure I can give plenty of examples of my own mistakes.
First, some background: I stumbled across Carolyn Resnick when I went back to YouTube and was looking for some Liberty training video. Most Liberty Training videos are too much “Miracle Occurs Here” without any roadmap of how to navigate through to said Miracle.
I was impressed by what I saw, so I traveled over to her online blog and spent several weeks reading through the entries and comments.
During that time, I ordered her dvds: Panadero’s Journey, and the Waterhole Rituals. After that, I decided it was also worth buying her book: Naked Liberty which I have now in paperback and the audio reading.
The reason I mention all of that is because I don’t think unless you view ALL the materials, read ALL the blog and comments, and even attend a clinic will you “get it.” On the surface, Carolyn’s method, some of which are the Waterhole Rituals themselves, seems very simple and straightforward. However, I think they are deceptively simple.
In this McWorld of wanting everything right now, too many people have used various “natural” horsemanship methods without understanding the logic or reasoning behind them. They rush out and want it all right now!! Then their work looks like ground hamburger next to the trainers’ New York Strip.
This just confuses people even more and in the long run, perhaps makes them angry with thoughts they were betrayed (I think roundpen work has unfortunately become caught into this trap).
I will never forget the Parelli person who fell off at a walk during a Centered Riding clinic. Sorry… that was a sidetrack… but oh the visual…
Now, one thing that started concerning me is that I had posted a video on YouTube trying out one of her Rituals. A few weeks later I got a very virulent email from a YouTuber angry that I was “posing” as someone that Carolyn Resnick had trained – or certified – even though I made NO claims of that – and STILL MAKE NO CLAIMS that I have been. I actually had gone out of my way to state I was NOT connected to these trainers etc…
This made me uneasy as people are very protective of their ideas – and others jump to conclusions. I removed those videos and many of the Carolyn Resnick posts have since gone private on the blog.
So this is my disclaimer – I am not certified by Carolyn Resnick, have not trained under her, have not taken a clinic, and except for the Insider Circle have not interacted with her personally. So before we begin anything – remember that!
