Horse care schedule and grooming goodies

With the Horse Helper, I’ve worked up a schedule to keep me on track. In terms of exercises, this will probably change in 30 days. In the last 24 hours he has already improved his leg lifts so like anything some things will move along quickly on the learning curve, and others will take more time.

As we proceed, exercises that have been learned and are solid will continue to be reinforced but in less duration (i.e. he knows head down, target touching, traveling with head down and nose forward etc…). Eventually, what happens is learned exercises are quickly touched upon to reinforce recall but they are just one small piece of a larger and longer program that brings in new material.

Remember, always end on a good note, and always end on something the horse knows and enjoys.

On other news, purely for fun, I bought some items from The Herbal Horse – use the word SPRING for a 20% discount! Their company is on Instagram @theherbalhorse

And I also bought (again more for fun) some Coconut Sassygrass shampoo from the Sun Horse company and find them on Instagram @sunhorsesupplies First purchase can get 20% off with a coupon that pops up when you visit the website.

One thing I’ve noticed in the last 10 years is this shrinking of the horse beauty product market. The players that are left (and available in my area) are usually crap products marketed to show kids who wouldn’t know a quality product if it came and bit them on the ass. For example, the Canter brand that State Line Tack was carrying when I was working for them (so I guess 10+ years ago?) was almost pure water!

However, I won’t be giving up my Vetrolin liniment soon – or my Aloe Advantage…. šŸ˜‰

As a small business owner myself, I’d rather pass on some of my money to those entrepreneurs trying to make it in this dog-eat-dog world. If it’s not quality, I won’t buy again but heck why not the first time?

This is probably the first time I’ve bought a horse beauty product just for fun in over 8 years. Dante is going to get some shampooing as soon as this weather continues warming – and in Oklahoma that probably means anytime in the next 12 days haha.

All the joy went out of my horse life when Pepper died. Time for me to start moving towards the light again….
